On a kids' electric car's product page you find numbers like 12V, 24V or 2 motors. Few people explain how they relate to what matters: how fast the car goes, how long it runs and what age it suits. Here is the plain version.
What V (volts) means
Voltage tells you how much "push" the battery has. A 12V car has a 12-volt battery and a 24V car has double that. On our models, the figure is in the battery row of the product page.
Our catalogue has three groups:
- 6V: for example the Vespa motorbike, Audi R8 6V and Toyota Sport. The simplest models, usually for the youngest children.
- 12V: the largest group, for example the Mercedes G Class, BMW X7 and Lamborghini Sian.
- 24V: for example the Range Rover Vogue 24V and the Lamborghini Aventador two-seater.
What watts (W) mean
Watts measure the motor's power. Simply put, power is voltage multiplied by the current the motor draws. At the same current, a 24V battery gives roughly double the power of a 12V one.
Power mainly helps with slopes, uneven ground and load, not only top speed. A more powerful car keeps its pace when a child goes up a small incline or over grass.
We do not always list power in watts, because not every manufacturer gives it. When it is listed, you find it on the product page.
Why voltage alone does not decide speed
You might think more volts means faster. In practice it is not that simple:
- The top speed is limited by the manufacturer through the control electronics and gearing, because these are children's vehicles.
- In our catalogue the listed speeds are 5 to 10 km/h. For comparison, an adult walks at about 5 km/h.
- Some 12V models reach the same speed as 24V ones. For example, the Lamborghini Sian is 12V and listed at 10 km/h.
So voltage tells you more about power and running time than about final speed.
Number of motors
Many models have 2 motors and some 4. More motors usually means more traction: the car starts easier and holds its line on grass or gravel. It does not necessarily mean higher speed.
How to choose
- Small child (0-4): 6V or 12V models with low speed are enough.
- Ages 5-8: a 12V with 2 or 4 motors is a good starting point.
- Rough ground or two children: look at 4-motor or 24V models.
Always check the age on the product page and read our guide on electric cars by age. If you are unsure, message us on WhatsApp with the child's age and we will advise.
